Introducing... My French Sailor

Another lovely Melbourne Rummager! Sunnie from My French Sailor.

Sunnie is a landscape architect by trade running her own small business. To satisfy her fun creative side, she created My French Sailor, a venture that allows her to sell handmade paper goods at local Melbourne markets and also online with Etsy.

In her spare time Sunnie is busy illustrating and designing new ideas for cards and gift tags and is currently working on a wedding stationary range. She loves nothing more than to sink her teeth into custom designs for her customers too.

She enjoys heading to the markets, to not only support the local handmade movement, but to interact with customers and other stallholders. November 18th will be Sunnie’s first appearance at the Suitcase Rummage and she can’t wait to meet you Rummagers there!

Installation at Melbourne October Rummage

This month at our Melbourne October Rummage, we're going to have a lovely installation by local artist Simone Bensdorp.

For this months Suitcase Rummage she will create a piece, in a suitcase of course, which celebrates the joy of spring, new growth and frolicking in the sunshine. Expect bright colours, weird creatures, and maybe even floral arrangements!

Simone is a Melbourne based illustrator/ visual artist who is unable to stick to the two dimensional. She enjoys exploring a wide variety of mediums and themes and draws much influence from tribal and psychedelic art, and childrens picture books. When she grows up she wants to be an origami master, but she's not quite ready to grow up yet.

Introducing...

We'd like to show you the lovely Alex Clark - another amazing Melbourne Rummager!  As for artist background, she's a Sydney-Melbourne dual resident specialising in portraiture, studied Illustration at NMIT Preston 2008-09, worked at a lolly shop for two years and now back on the wagon for making things, so now it's typography, sculpture and portraiture.

Alex is an artist who also does 2 minute on the spot portraits at various happenings around the place....She'll be set up on Sunday at our October 21 Melbourne event!

Get on down to Thornbury Theatre this Sunday and have a portrait done ...
She also volunteers at the Melbourne Athenaeum Library as their chalkboard typographer, so there's some photos of that below.

Introducing one of our Melbourne Rummagers, Collette!

Introducing one of our delightful Melbourne Rummagers, Collette Dane and her stall Keeper's Secret.

I like to keep busy! I work full time as a Visual and Performing Arts Primary Teacher, exhibit artwork annually and run a craft stall "Keeper's Secret".

Keeper's Secret started a few years ago. I had always been interested craft and spent most of my spare time making, sewing, stitching, folding & cutting.  Whilst working at a craft store I amassed a great deal of craft supplies, but spent most of my time painting artworks to complete a BA of Fine Arts. During this time I experimented with bookmaking, and now my fine arts practice is based around this media.  Finally, after a few holidays overseas and study over, I thought I should probably use all my craft knowledge and materials to make objects to sell.  I spent a summer making jewelry with Japanese Chiyogami paper. I created an Etsy store, however had no sales.  The collection of jewelry was shelved until later this year when I had my first Keeper's Secret stall at the Winter Artisans Market at Northcote Town Hall.  It was daunting being a first time stall holder at a prestigious market alongside more experienced and professional set-ups, however it was a success.  I continued to extend my range of goods, creating handmade blank books and a stationary range, keeping with the Chiyogami paper theme.  I also make small creatures, hair clips and brooches with felt.

Working on my craft stall has been incredibly enjoyable.  It's such a great feeling when someone purchases something I have made. It's great to know someone out there is treasuring their handmade jewelry as much as I enjoyed making it.  You might see me around Northcote with a basket of felt crafting while watching local musicians......

I absolutely love the Suitcase Rummage market. It's a great format and everyone is friendly.  It's informal approach is accessible to anyone and is a great opportunity to give market selling a try!

You can find Collette and her wonderful wares at the next Suitcase Rummage at Thornbury Theatre, Melbourne on October 21.
